Struggling with finding an RTX 3080 or equivalent for your PC? A new alternative for those highly sought-after and overly priced graphics cards is now available in Nvidia’s GeForce NOW RTX 3080 service, which breathes some extra life into older GPUs and can delay upgrading them. While the new service is only available as a preorder for GeForce NOW Founder or Priority members, it will soon open to everyone. The Load Screen covers how gamers can take advantage of this new option for RTX capable gaming instead of making costly hardware improvements.
The cost of Nvidia’s upgraded subscription is currently $99.99 for six months of service, according to the Nvidia GeForce NOW RTX 3080 post. The service provides gamers with systems that stream 1440p at 120 frames per second or 4K HDR at 60 FPS on Nvidia’s SHIELD TV. There are even several Android phone models that meet the streaming service requirements, and the Android device with GeForce NOW RTX 3080 article shows several recommended mobile devices. Once the subscription is activated, players can access Nvidia’s vast list of supported titles, provided they own the game on the appropriate storefront.
For any users of GeForce NOW, the supported games list expands every Thursday, and Nvidia recently added nine new titles, including New World by Amazon Game Studios and Ubisoft’s Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration. Other titles already available are Far Cry 6, Chernobylite, Watch Dogs: Legion, Cyberpunk 2077, and over 1,000 more. See the GeForce Now Games page for every video game on their service.
RTX 3080 subscription also has elevated requirements for product functionality, and the GeForce NOW system requirements page has changed to reflect the higher-end service. While 25 Mbps internet speed is the low end for 1080p gaming, 35 Mbps is the mark for RTX 3080 gaming. 120 Hz resolution is only available on monitors and devices capable of handling that frequency already. Other than the monitor and internet speed, most of the base stats for 1080p gaming on PC are the same. The page also notes that Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge versions of GeForce NOW do not support the RTX 3080 frame rate and maximum resolution yet.
Accessing RTX 3080 graphics cards is still quite tricky and well over MSRP. The Nvidia GeForce Now RTX 3080 subscription for $199.98 per year can put off the purchase. Especially until the chip shortage eases, see our chip shortage strains product availability article for how this is still a direct issue. Add in the resellers with their malicious bots, and that yearly cost looks more practical. With Nvidia providing new titles to their list every Thursday, the reasons for turning to their service grow.
