The hits keep rolling with indie video games releasing in the next several months or even later. Kali and Tony pick three indie games they are excited to play when they release, and most will be heading to PC. However, several of these titles will also land on platforms like Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and even Nintendo Switch, but each will have them listed below our brief description. This list is in no particular order.

Greenfield

Pick: Kali

Developer: Six Foot Giraffe

Fans of Limbo and Inside will want to try Greenfield because of the 2D environmental puzzle-solving and softer graphics styling. In this indie from Six Foot Giraffe, the player controls an older man with a limp who wears glasses and suspenders as he solves puzzles, uses unique vehicles and forgotten technology, and conquers five areas centered around a specific energy. Mix in the surreal visuals of the main character’s fractured mind, and everyone can find something to enjoy. Expect to defeat several colossal guardians and solve many interesting puzzles when Greenfield comes to PC via Steam.

Platforms: PC

The Spirit of the Samurai

Pick: Tony

Developer: Digital Mind Games

Classic Shinobi, eat your heart out because you have an attack kitty in this side scroller from Digital Minds Games! 2D stop-motion animation amps up the mystical battle when a reanimated samurai takes on a horde of undead warriors and other spiritual monsters. Play as a human, a cat, and a spirit to restore peace to the land in a Japanese setting. The often-gory animations and use of lighting and other modern effects make for a truly unique-looking indie, The Spirit of the Samurai releases in 2024 on Steam.

Mandragora

Pick: Kali

Developers: Primal Game Studio

Castlevania-style side-scrolling action mixed with awesome abilities in this 2.5D action RPG. In Primal Game Studio’s indie Mandragora, humans are losing the world to monsters, causing the realm called Faelduum to decline, and the player must travel by night to take it all back. Use weapons and magical abilities to challenge unique enemies and run into NPCs with complex moral dilemmas that force players to make tough choices. Tear reality with the legendary Witch Lantern and enter the dark realm of Entropy to continue the fight as it gets more brutal and deadly. Steam lists Mandragora as Coming Soon, and PlayStation has it marked as Announced, so there is no official release date.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch

This Bed We Made

Pick: Tony

Developers: Lowbirth Games

This Bed We Made is a 1950s spy thriller where the hotel staff are unwitting accomplices in a secret plot in a third-person exploration mystery. The main character is a maid who loves to snoop, which uncovers deadly surprises guests left about, and she finds tales of love and heartbreak. Developed by Lowbirth Games out of Montreal, Canada, this third-person exploration mystery indie will have players checking every drawer, briefcase, and even safe to find the next clue while on the lookout for guests who could return to catch her in the act! Check out The Bed We Made demo on Steam and the full game releases on November 1st.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Pick: Kali

Developers: Ninja Theory

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II was not a hard indie to add to any future game-to-play list, as Ninja Theory brings players back to the brutal journey of survival for Senua in the Viking period of Iceland as she conquers darkness. The sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has rich cinematic emersion as the heroine attempts to save victims from the horrors of tyranny. Some of the darkness that Senua fights is from within, but can she muster up the courage to overcome it all and save her people from giants and more? There is no release date announced yet for the indie sequel Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II on Steam, but The Load Screen Team cannot wait!

Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X|S

The Invincible

Pick: Tony

Developers: Starward Industries

Explore the mysterious alien planet of Regis III, searching for clues to what happened to the crew of The Invincible, an indie space adventure from Starward Industries. Play as Yasna, an astrobiologist caught with a missing crew on an unexplored planet, a story based on a classic sci-fi novel by Stanislaw Lem. The seemingly barren and beautiful landscape hides danger in this retro-futuristic atompunk indie. Fortunately for gamers, a demo for The Invincible is available on Steam. Try it out now or wait until the game releases on November 6th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
