Good news for those who pre-ordered New World from Amazon Games, the title finally has a revised release date. According to the New World news page, the third-person MMORPG is now available on August 31, 2021. The developers also announced a new Closed Beta for those who pre-ordered starting July 20, 2021, and that the Alpha is finally coming to EU gamers on March 30. Both tests are good opportunities for players to get a taste of what this game has in store for them and the thousands they play with online.

New World is an Open World MMO that does not rely on a class system for player advancement, rather leveling is based purely on how the gamer chooses to play. Preferences are set through various systems including Attributes, Weapon Mastery, and Endless Tradeskill Progression. This allows each player to adapt their unique style without limiting skill combinations by class. While other MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft rely on them exclusively, see the World of Warcraft classes page for more details.

The setting of New World is a supernatural 17th-century island called Aeternum that is full of all kinds of creatures and monsters for the player to battle how they choose. While set in the Age of Exploration, the title follows an alternate history so it will not get tied up in actual politics and peoples of the time. Each server in the game will host over 1,000 players simultaneously, so expect packed markets and fields throughout Aeternum.

When the first Alpha went live in the middle of last year for America, gamers were excited that Amazon Games was testing out their servers for launch later that year. However, it was soon apparent that more work was needed before the title was launched. In an older New World release delayed update page, the Studio Director Rich Lawrence states that the delay was to “ensure that the most dedicated players have plenty of middle and endgame experiences as they venture through Aeternum.” While that article hopefully projected Spring of 2021, it is now August 31, 2021.

The Load Screen looks forward to what this open-world MMO offers, especially with its unique presentation of player advancement. There is a closed Beta for those looking to get in the action early, but only for those that pre-order the title. New World is available on both Amazon or Steam, and no word if it will get a console port as of now. At least the recommended and minimum specifications for the game make it widely accessible to most PC players as listed on the New World FAQ page.
