7 Games to look out for in 2023
A Diverse Year of Games
The new year has a lot of interesting releases coming, including more remakes and brand-new titles from indie and AAA developers. The genres run the full gambit and include many great horror games. Like last year, a few titles have already pushed their release dates back several times, so expect a few more possible delays. If the release schedules hold up, these seven games should excite anyone who plays them:
Dead Space – 1/27/2023
Return to the USG Ishimura one more time with a twist of next-gen graphics and reworked systems as players fight the necromorph nightmare. Motive and EA promise more than just a graphical overhaul for this horror classic when it comes out in January. The improvements to gameplay and the suspenseful ambient audio will make Dead Space as impactful as the original. The updated title’s immersion factor will have us on the edge of our seats as humanity ends on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Atomic Heart – 2/21/2023
Atomic Heart is a game based on an alternate reality where the results of World War II are drastically different. Soviet technology has led to a robotic revolution and societal decay like the BioShock series. Battle through a fallen utopia with improvised weapons and twisted technology against zombie-like enemies and murderous robots. The railgun Mundfish made should wreak havoc on anything in the player’s way in this dystopian horror. The wait for this twisted apocalyptic action RPG is almost over, and expect to play it on Xbox Game Pass, PC, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Resident Evil 4 – 3/24/2023
Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4 maintains the third-person perspective but updates the graphics to next-gen standards and better-refined controls. Longtime fans will get a revamped chance to play through one of the best RE titles on current systems. For those new to the title, explore the mysterious European village surrounded by an eerie forest and protected by an even stranger cult and leader in the search for the president’s daughter. RE:4 remake is one of two titles released to multiple systems on the list that include modern systems: PC, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Crime Boss: Rockay City – 3/28/2023
The star-studded cast that INGAME STUDIOS worked into Crime Boss: Rockay City is quite impressive for any film, not just one set in the 90s. The developers went out of their way to make a nineties standout with characters played by Chuck Norris, Danny Trejo, Michael Rooker, Danny Glover, Michael Madsen, Kim Basinger, and even Vanilla Ice. If the gameplay matches the cast, this game could give GTA V fans a new story to enjoy alone or in co-op. Take the mayhem to the streets this March on PC and later to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – 8/2023
After several delays, Larian Studios will release Baldur’s Gate this year. The multiplayer campaign modes with brutal Dungeons & Dragons gameplay have The Load Screen thrilled. Cthulhu-like mind-flayers, dragons, and grotesque mimics in the shape of a treasure chest await players in the latest adventure in the Forgotten Realms. Hidden traps and spell triggers will challenge players to have diverse parties deeper into this co-op action-adventure game exclusive to PC and Mac.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl – 12/2023
A post-apocalyptic Chornobyl has provided ample ground for dimensional evils to kill off what remains of humanity. Gathering supplies to battle those mutated foes will require stealth, bullets, and luck. This FPS survival horror has been on our games-to-watch list for a while, especially after GSC Game World reversed course on including NFTs. The indie developers have managed to get their title out despite extreme hardships within their home country, Ukraine. Hopefully, the game will make its December release on the Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Redfall – Sometime in 2023
Bethesda’s Redfall brings a vampire-hunting multiplayer similar to Back 4 Blood and Left 4 Dead with four-player FPS co-op action. The seemingly never-ending horde contains a wide range of bloodsucking baddies, but each player has many weapons and abilities to return the sun to its normal light. Until then, the vampires rule the endless night, and that premise has us wanting to tear into this title when it comes out this year on the Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
